Before the judge were two of the nine motions to dismiss that the defendants have filed in the case. “It’s difficult to see how this gets you to the dismissal of an indictment,” the judge told Trump’s attorney Todd Blanche. Cannon said some of Trump’s concerns should be up to the juryThe judge repeatedly said Thursday that some of Trump’s arguments are best suited for a jury to decide during his eventual trial. Reagan’s journals were more akin to “personal records” as defined under the Presidential Records Act, they said. In Clinton’s case, the tapes were never reviewed and therefore never confirmed to contain classified information.

In Florida, Trump’s attorneys told Judge Aileen Cannon his Mar-a-Lago classified documents case should wait until after the 2024 election. But both hearings could have a significant impact on when – or whether – Trump will face trial in each of those two cases. The only case that appears set: Trump’s New York criminal trial will begin March 25, which Trump’s attorneys said was a “firm” date in court Friday. Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis attends a hearing on the Georgia election interference case on Friday in Atlanta. When Trump’s attorneys argued for the hearing, Cannon pushed them to describe how they could narrow its scope and asked them to lay out specifically what a hearing would examine.

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — New Jersey Devils coach Lindy Ruff was struck in the face by a puck Thursday night and wasn’t behind the bench for the third period of his team's 3-2 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes. “Just wasn’t feeling right, but seems a little better right now than he was after the second, so that was great to see,” Devils associate coach Travis Green said after the game. Ruff, who turns 64 next month, was hit with about 6 1/2 minutes remaining in the second period, but was tended to and remained behind the bench after a brief break. Wagner left Facebook parent Meta last year, and her work in trust and safety feels like it was from a prior era. One of her first investments was in a startup called Cove, which was founded by former Meta trust and safety staffers. "One thing I would recommend is transparency at a time where third-party access and understanding to what is going on at scale on social platforms is what is needed." Post is an example of the kinds of companies that trust and safety startups are focused on. Fishman said customers are starting to see trust and safety tools as almost an extension of their cybersecurity budgets.

CNN —Prosecutors with special counsel Jack Smith’s office have accused former President Donald Trump’s legal team of seeking to manipulate the courts in their bid to delay his trials past the 2024 presidential election. Currently, the 2020 election federal trial is set to begin in early March, and the Florida documents case is set to go to trial in late May. The request may be a long-shot before Chutkan of the DC federal District Court, who has indicated she wants the March trial date to hold. Prosecutors from special counsel Jack Smith’s office – which is prosecuting both federal cases against Trump – seized on Trump’s request in DC as they argued to keep the Florida federal trial in the spring. Neither judge has said if Trump’s federal trial dates will stay as is.

A United Auto Workers (UAW) union member wears a pin while picketing outside Ford's Kentucky truck plant after going on strike in Louisville, Kentucky, U.S. October 12, 2023. With the United Auto Workers (UAW) strike entering its 36th day and the total economic cost pegged at more than $7 billion, companies are counting the cost of lost revenue amid an uncertain economy and persistent inflation. "The damage from the strikes will last long after UAW members return to work," University of Michigan professor Erik Gordon said. Earlier this week, consultancy firm Anderson Economic Group estimated the economic losses related to supplier wages and earnings of about $2.67 billion through fourth week of the strike. An agreement remains elusive so far and shares of automakers and suppliers have fallen since the strike began on Sept. 15.

Schmaltz also had a goal and an assist in regulation, and Matt Dumba and Sean Durzi also scored for the Coyotes in their regular season opener. Bjugstad and Schmaltz scored on Arizona's two attempts in the shootout, and Vejmelka stopped New Jersey's Timo Meier and Bratt to secure the win. “It was a disappointing start to the game; first period again,” Devils coach Lindy Ruff said of his team's slow start. In their filing on Friday, prosecutors went through a long litany of Mr. Trump’s social media attacks, noting how he has referred to Mr. Smith several times as “deranged” and to the prosecutors working under him as a “team of thugs.” They pointed out that Mr. Trump has called Judge Chutkan “a radical Obama hack” and a “biased, Trump-hating judge.”Prosecutors also said that Mr. Trump has attacked the residents of Washington who one day will be called upon to serve as the jury pool for his trial. In late August, Mr. Trump, apparently referring to an article in The New York Post, attacked the prosecutor in the documents case, Jay I. Bratt, for having met at the White House with officials of the Biden administration. But prosecutors said that, as Mr. Trump knew from the discovery evidence he had received in the case, Mr. Bratt went to the White House as part of the investigation of the classified documents case to interview a “career military official” who worked there. Seeking to connect Mr. Trump’s out-of-court statements directly to the charges they have brought, prosecutors cited several social media attacks that reached back to the chaotic postelection period when Mr. Trump was spreading lies that widespread fraud had marred the vote count. The prosecutors accused Mr. Trump of knowing that his menacing remarks at that time often inspired “others to perpetrate threats and harassment against his targets.”

The federal prosecutors overseeing the classified documents case against former President Donald J. Trump objected on Monday to his proposal to discuss highly sensitive discovery evidence at a secure location at Mar-a-Lago, his private club and residence in Florida. Last week, Mr. Trump’s lawyers asked Judge Aileen M. Cannon, who is presiding over the case, to let the former president discuss the classified discovery evidence in the “secure facility” that he once used for such materials when he was in office. That facility, the lawyers said, was “at or near his residence,” an apparent reference to Mar-a-Lago, which is in West Palm Beach. But in their own filing to Judge Cannon, prosecutors in the office of the special counsel, Jack Smith, said that Mr. Trump was seeking “special treatment that no other criminal defendant would receive” by requesting to discuss the classified material at home. “In essence,” one of the prosecutors, Jay I. Bratt, wrote, “he is asking to be the only defendant ever in a case involving classified information (at least to the government’s knowledge) who would be able to discuss classified information in a private residence.”

Mr. Smith is not the first special counsel to investigate Mr. Trump. Mr. Smith, by contrast, faces no such limits given that Mr. Trump is no longer in office. Mr. Mueller said little when faced with a barrage of falsehoods pushed publicly by Mr. Trump and his allies about him and his investigative team. During Mr. Trump’s arraignment in Miami in June, Mr. Smith sat in the gallery, closely watching the proceedings. Some in the courtroom suggested he stared at Mr. Trump for much of the hearing, sizing him up.

Attorneys for former President Donald Trump Chris Kise (C) and Todd Blanche (R) arrive at The Alto Lee Adams Sr. United States Courthouse on July 18, 2023 in Fort Pierce, Florida. The judge presiding over Donald Trump 's federal criminal case appeared skeptical Tuesday of the former president's argument that the trial over his handling of classified documents should be delayed beyond the 2024 election, NBC News reported. Walt Nauta, personal aide to former U.S. President Donald Trump, exits Fort Pierce U.S. courthouse after a hearing in Fort Pierce, Florida, July 18, 2023. Trump faces 37 criminal counts related to his alleged mishandling of classified documents after leaving the White House. Nauta, Trump's personal aide, was supposed to be arraigned Tuesday in the classified documents case. He wasn't able to get local counsel or make it to the arraignment in person. Woodward said that Nauta wasn't likely to appear in person on July 6 because of "logistical hurdles" that he didn't explain, and said a local counsel would appear instead. Like Trump, Nauta didn't have to post a bond and won't face restrictions on his travel as the case moves forward. Trump directed Nauta "to move boxes of documents to conceal them from Trump's attorney, the FBI, and the grand jury," the indictment alleges.

Polls show Alberta's election, scheduled to take place no later than May 29, will be a tight two-way race between the UCP and left-leaning New Democratic Party, led by Rachel Notley.
